The Geochron Restoration Program
As of January 2023, Geochron has started a waitlist for mechanical clocks needing restoration or repair. Our current capacity of three to four clocks per week is not enough to meet current demand, and we are struggling to find experienced clock technicians in Oregon. We continue to make new mechanical clocks to order.
This is temporary. Plans are underway to bring our restoration program to full speed later in 2023.
Please sign up your Geochron mechanical clock for our waitlist, and you’ll be the first to know when we are ready to accept it.
Our digital division is strong, and Geochron will continue to develop and support the popular Atlas 2 display far into the future. Tell us now, and your mechanical Geochron will be at the top of the queue when restorations resume.
For warranty requests on existing clocks, please contact us.
Thank you,
Patrick

Your Geochron will be stripped down to the frame, and restored like new.
Is your Geochron slowing down, binding, or showing damage on the map? It’s a machine, and 300 moving parts do wear out over time. Some clocks never need a restoration, but it depends on the environment and how it’s been handled. Other owners simply want the sturdy new Dura Drive technology, LED, or updated maps in their clock, but the same clock makers that build new Geochrons can also restore yours. On average, it takes 20-25 hours of labor per restoration.
Restoration pricing is tiered based on age – the older the clock, the more parts we need to replace (see video). To check the age of your Geochron, look at the first 4 digits of the unit’s serial number. It is located on the back, towards the bottom of the Geochron in the middle. The first 4 digits represent the year and month the Geochron was manufactured (for example, a serial number 9702-34567 was built in February of 1997).
How old is your clock?
The typical restoration timeline is two to three weeks (shortest in the Summer). All refurbishments include a complete tear down of the unit, cleaning and greasing of all gears and moving components. New items included are the map, lights, shadows, and for units over 7 years new motors… anything that is not perfect. We’re constantly improving on the original design to improve its lifespan – your rebuilt Geochron will actually be better than new. All parts and labor are included in our quoted price.
Should there be any issues, we include a one year warranty on everything, three year warranty on the drive system, and will cover shipping costs up to 90 days after the restoration. Warranty returns after 90 days do not include shipping the clock.

Custom Upgrades with a rebuild
LED Lighting System Upgrade (included)
Your restored clock will include a new an LED Lighting System. It’s a significant improvement to the dazzling appearance of a Geochron.
- Burn at least 3x longer than the standard fluorescent bulbs, as long as six years of continuous use.
- Use 60% less energy. The whole clock will run at just 14 watts.
- Extend the operational lifetime of your Geochron by years by not heating up the non-metal components inside the clock.
- Show deeper colors and greater depth in the map. LED elements have a greater visual frequency spectrum than Fluorescent bulbs.
- Option: LED backlights can be dimmable by remote control! More details about LED upgrades are here.
Sunlit LED Analemma ($75)
The Geochron has always shown the Analemma’s Sun as a shadow, but as of January 2017 we can turn that black hole into a brilliant yellow LED. Because – you know – that’s the color of the SUN. More details here.
LED Dimmable Lighting System Upgrade ($175) More details here.
Map Upgrades
Every restoration gets a new Premium Mapset. This is included with the cost of your rebuild. Topographical- only mapsets that are offset printed are available too. (-$50)
